Gender-Bending, the New Trend in WoW?

Okay, I admit that I have the so-called 'Damsel in Distress' syndrome in WoW. Though it's really quite tiring at some point because of all the male characters hitting on me, as if they didn't know better. It has already become an established fact that what you see is not always what it seems. Here is where that old adage “Looks can be deceiving,” can't be more true. To make the record straight, I am a guy playing a female Night Elf.

I've read from a post some guy made, "if I am going to stare at a butt all game it might as well be a butt I'd like to look at," and I have to admit again that that holds true for me. Though it's funny since there isn't much time to look at it with all the killing, playing, chatting, and what not in the game. I guess it's just my hormonal desire thinking and acting up again. LoL!

Having that 'damsel in distress' syndrome really pays off. I mean everyone knows that females tend to get more attention than males because of their 'fragile' state(though I don't mean this as an insult), which is what society had dictated so many years before. I acquire gifts that I could rarely get just by playing. And it's so fun to see what kinds of reception I'll get from males and females. What's really interesting for me when I play that role is that I get to see what kind of pick-up lines or flirty lines I'll get from my brethren! Haha! Maybe even learn from them! LoL! And there's that famous 'sisterhood' and 'girl talk' that guys would kill to know about! Haha!

The fact that male characters in WoW are nothing but ugly(and I know a LOT who will agree to this) discourages me from playing them. I am not being vain when I say this but since this is already an illusion, might as well go all the way and make myself a presentable creature in the cyber world, right?

What's really gross about this gender-bending is that a lot of males want to make me their cyber wife! What's even grosser is that some males who play females tend to make their character's personality really flirtacious! As if real life girls would be that lustful! It is sad to know that some men think this low of women just to satisfy their sexual fantasy, even just in the game.

It is also sad to know that there are guys who really look down on us who gender bend, once in a while calling us 'fags.' A really strong word to use against the male population. But I'm not offended because I'm pretty sure about my sexual orientation, I have loved girls ever since I came to know about their existence, and will continue to do so. When I receive comments like these, I just shrug it off, assuming that whoever said that isn't mature enough and didn't know better than to tease and make fun of those different from him.

This is, after all an illusionary world, where everyone has the right to role-play – whether it be a female avatar or not. I think this mustn't be too much of a big deal considering we're all thousands of miles apart, across the globe. What matters is that you enjoy playing the game, which is what games are all about.
